Barcelona hotshot Lionel Messi joined the Argentina squad on Wednesday as it arranged for a cordial with Honduras in front of one month from now’s Copa America competition, the nation’s football affiliation said.
The Argentina Football Association said Messi, 28, and his Barcelona fellow team member midfielder Javier Mascherano had joined the squad, in a Twitter message on Wednesday morning.
In a later message it said that Mascherano had partaken in an instructional meeting at the squad’s Ezeiza preparing ground yet Messi had not.
The football affiliation said that individuals from the squad would give a public interview at 1530 GMT at the preparation ground, south of Buenos Aires.
Argentina host Honduras on Friday in the western city of San Juan.
That will be a goodbye to the home fans before the squad heads to the United States for the Centennial Copa America worldwide competition, from June 3 to 26.
